Health for All conference
Islington Black History Month 2010 opened with the ‘Health for All?’ conference at the Islington Town Hall. The conference, organised by Improving Reach, aimed to bring together the statutory health sector and community voluntary sector to discuss health inequalities in Islington. There were also a number of facilitated workshops that identified partnerships that need to be formed to improve health for all, and recommendations to be taken forward to reduce health inequalities. The conference also featured information stalls, health checks, free complementary therapies, and film screenings.
There were some insightful and informative presentations made, speakers included Councillor Catherine West, leader of Islington Council, Dr Elizabeth Henry, (Interim CEO, Race on the Agenda) Patrick Vernon, (CEO, Afiya Trust) Phillip Watson, (CE, manor Gardens Welfare Trust) and Ian Sanford (NHS Islington).
The event was very well attended with over 100 people representing community organisations, health service providers and the statutory sector. Thanks to all the speakers, workshop facilitators, volunteers and staff for making the conference a success.
