Volunteering Opportunities Festive Season 2024

1. Christmas Lunch volunteers – St John’s Evangelist Catholic Church
Wednesday 25th December
Many volunteers are needed to host this annual Christmas meal at St John’s Catholic Church in Duncan Terrace (Near to Islington, Angel). Volunteers are needed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for setting up and preparation on 24.12 and for the kitchen and hosting teams. Full details are on St John the Evangelist’s website.

2. Islington Food Hubs
Festive period
Some of the Islington food hubs will be open over the festive period. If you would like to help them during the festive period, please check with them in advance. More information here.

3. Driver volunteers – Jacksons Lane (Highgate)
Wednesday 25th December
2024 marks the 50th Christmas Day lunch at Jacksons Lane. They need an army of volunteers to cook the meals, drive around guests, wrap gifts and spread joy on the day.
Sign up and/or find out more info on what’s needed on the Jacksons Lane website.

4. Christmas present packing and delivery volunteers – The Salvation Army
Festive period
There is a range of opportunities available, however, what is on offer will vary on a local level – and so depends on each local church. You can also discover what’s on offer by visiting a shop and speaking to the staff or volunteers.
Other voluntary roles include cooks and caterers, befrienders and debt advisers, at their food banks, lunch clubs and community cafes amongst other roles.
To find out more email ATMSVolunteering@salvationarmy.org.uk or visit the Salvation Army website.

5. Christmas volunteer – Crisis
Festive period
Volunteer with Crisis this Christmas and be there for someone as they start to build a life beyond homelessness.
Whether you are the first person a guest meets when they walk through the door looking for support, or you provide a listening ear and companionship, you’ll be making a real difference to those experiencing homelessness this Christmas. Check out all of the details on the Crisis website.

The Big Issue has produced a roundup of volunteering in London at Christmas. Have a look at the Big Issue website.
