Volunteering Opportunities at Christmas 2019
1. Bucket Collecting Volunteer – The Silver Line
Sunday 22nd November – Monday 23rd December – various locations
The Silver Line with their bucket collections across London and beyond to celebrate their 6th Birthday on the 25th November, as well as Christmas. Collecting is a fun and simple way to fundraise, you can get your friends and colleagues involved. Bucket collection dates and locations here. 2. St John’s Hospice Christmas Fayre Volunteer
Sunday 1st December (various times 8am – 10am, 10am – 2pm or 2pm – 6pm OR all day)
Event Volunteers’ duties include: selling attraction tickets, raffle tickets and merchandise You may also help with stewarding & supervising rides. Helping with the refreshments, assisting with setting up and close down and much more. Register your interest here.
3. Winter Warmer event Volunteer – North London Cares
Thursday 5th December 3 – 5 pm
Meet your neighbours over some winter-themed refreshments and activities. here will be information & advice on offer from community organisations who can help over 65s stay warm, active and connected – all part of North London Cares Winter Wellbeing programme. 4. A Gospel Christmas Volunteer – Christian Aid
Saturday 7th December 7 pm to 10pm at The Brixton Community Church, Lambert Road, London SW2 5BB
Christian Aid is looking for volunteers to look after guests and help with the running of A Gospel Christmas, the annual fundraising gospel concert. You will also be able to watch the performances for free! You will help set up- putting out refreshments, putting out tables, serve refreshments- making teas and coffees and serving food, some volunteers will check tickets when the guests arrive and help people find their seats. This is a one-off event, so it all happens on the one day! Volunteers will be arriving at 2pm to help set up and will be briefed for the evening. The event itself will be from 7pm-10pm. 5. Christmas Bucket Collection – Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice
Saturday 7th December to Tuesday 17th December ( various times and locations)
Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice local choirs have very kindly offered to carol sing to raise money for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice; they need help to collect on the day. They need volunteers to offer 2 hours of your time to support them?
The role will include bucket collecting for Noah’s Ark, signing the choir in at the station and taking responsibility for the collection buckets. 6. Santa Run Cheerer Volunteer – Royal Society for Blind Children
Sunday 8th December 9:00am – 2:00pm
On Sunday 8th December, the epic Santa Run is taking place in Victoria Park! This event will suit people who would like to get involved with a unique fun and sporting event and enjoy an amazing festive atmosphere in London. 7. Christmas Festive Party Volunteer – Centre404
Sunday 8th December 1:00pm – 3:30pm at Copenhagen Primary School

7. Christmas Bucket Collections Volunteer – Single Homeless Project
From Tuesday 10th December to Friday 20th December
Single Homeless Project provides an opportunity to raise much-needed funds whilst raising awareness about homelessness and our work across London. They are also a great opportunity for team building/group volunteering. No experience is needed – all we ask is for at least two hours of your time and we’ll do the rest. 8. Edmonton Christmas Collection – Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice
Wednesday 11th December – 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Edmonton Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas collection is a highly anticipated event for the residents in this borough; it has grown exponentially over the years and is now home to Santa, music, snow machines and a literal float-load of Christmas spirit!
The role for the volunteer will be to follow the Christmas float along a pre-determined route, bucket collecting as the Rotary club generate good cheer and a joyful atmosphere for us. Last year was a great success and a fantastic night for all involved.
The collection will be on behalf of several local charities and Edmonton Rotary Club has kindly chosen to take part again this year; It’s a fantastic opportunity to raise money for good causes.

9. Christmas Gift Wrapping – Wimbledon Guild
Monday 16th December to Friday 20th December 2019 from 11am to 5pm
The wrapping station will be located outside of Debenhams in the Centre Court Shopping Centre in Wimbledon. They need 2-3 volunteers per hour to be wrapping and informing shoppers the wrapping service is available. Volunteers are welcome for 1 or 2-hour shifts or all day, and as an individual or a group of colleagues, friends or family! More information and to register your interest here.
10. Christmas Volunteer – Station collection (Euston)
Tuesday 17th December (a one-off event) – Euston Square Station
Christmas station collections are a really fun, flexible and easy way to volunteer to help raise vital funds for our homelessness services across London. They provide an opportunity for SHP to raise much-needed funds whilst raising awareness about homelessness and our work across London. They are also a great opportunity for team building/group volunteering. You will be part of a team of between 2 and 12 collecting at a central London station and will be holding a bucket and/or contactless machine encouraging members of the public to donate to homeless Londoners this Christmas. Each day will run between 7:30 and 19:30. They will be split into 2 hour shifts (7:30-9:30, 9:30-11:30, 11:30-13:30, 13:30-15:30, 15:30-17:30, 17:30-19:30). 11. Mary’s Living and Giving for Save the Children Volunteer
They are looking for volunteers to help over the Christmas period to help at their shop at 138 Upper Street, London N1 1QP. Contact shop manager Ruxandra Huma on r.huma@savethechildren.org.uk for details on how to volunteer.
12. Kings Cross Station Bucket Collection Volunteer
Friday 20th December – with multiple shifts – 7am to 9am, 9:30am to 11:30am, 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm
They are looking for a number of volunteers to be greeting commuters, raising awareness by informing them about what they do and raising funds by requesting donations. Volunteers will be required to stand for the duration of their time volunteering for us (2 hours). No experience or specific skill required – just bring your smile. 13. Kitchen Assistant Volunteer – Crisis
Sunday 22nd – Monday 30th December – two shifts 7:45am – 4:00pm or 3:00pm to 10:00pm (two shift minimum required)
Catering is an absolutely vital service and needs over 500 volunteers to provide over 30, 000 meals for our guests across 10 centers. You will peel, chop, stir and serve up hot delicious meals including a traditional Christmas dinner and Boxing Day curry to make our guests feel welcomed and at home. Apply here.
14. Shelter Volunteer – Hackney Winter Night Shelter
The Hackney Winter Night Shelter is a is a year-round facility run by a body of 600 volunteers, that operates out of several different venues around Hackney. As with most London shelters, Hackney Winter Night Shelter is particularly busy over the festive period and relies on its volunteers to assemble beds, cook, serve food and make conversation with guests. Overnight volunteers are also needed for shifts to ensure guests have a peaceful night, and to help serve breakfast in the morning. Those with special skills – such as a foreign language – are particularly in demand, while those willing to help with laundry or simply play a game of Scrabble with guests are also valuable to the team. They offer all their volunteers a training session with an induction pack and have in place a range of policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both guests and volunteers. 15. Shop Volunteer – Cancer Research
Cancer Research is looking for volunteers over the festive period to come to help out at there shops. It is a chance to be in a friendly team, to make new friends and meet a diverse group of people, the chance to gain valuable retail experience, the time to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills and the ability to gain valuable experience to enhance your CV and to learn new skills.
