Voluntary Action Islington runs a thriving Newsgroup with more than 900 members. It is open to voluntary and community organisations, small not-for-profit groups, volunteers and statutory sector partners working in or supporting communities across Islington.
The Newsgroup is a great way to stay connected with Islington’s voluntary and community sector. VAI regularly shares useful news, information and opportunities directly with members. You can also post your own updates to the group from your email account, helping you promote your organisation’s work and connect with a wide local audience.
You can use the Newsgroup to share:
- News relevant to Islington’s voluntary and community sector
- Information about upcoming projects and initiatives
- Training and development opportunities
- Events, workshops, wellbeing sessions and activity programmes
- Funding news and opportunities
- Job vacancies and trustee positions
- Awareness campaigns your organisation is supporting or involved with

What to post
Here are some suggestions on what you may like to post.
- News is relevant to the Voluntary & Community Sectors in Islington.
- Information on any up-and-coming projects or initiatives.
- Training opportunities.
- Events, workshops, well-being and activity programmes from your organisations.
- Funding updates
- Job vacancies, Trustee posts (for volunteering opportunities, use the Islington Volunteer Centre platform)*
- Awareness campaigns you are involved with.

*If you are looking for volunteers for your organisation, upload your volunteer roles to the Islington Volunteer Centre Platform
Using the Newsgroup:
We encourage organisations to post their own emails so that responses are received directly. Send your post to voluntaryactionislington-news@googlegroups.com.
When replying directly to a sender, please remove voluntaryactionislington-news@googlegroups.com from the recipient list to avoid sending your reply to the whole newsgroup.

Please check your junk or spam folder. If newsgroup emails are being marked as junk:
- Go to your Junk Email folder and find the relevant message.
- Right-click the message and select Mark as not junk.

Appropriate Use:
The VAI Newsgroup is a respectful, inclusive and supportive space for sharing information relevant to Islington's voluntary and community sector.
All content should be relevant to the purpose of the newsgroup. Posts must not include inappropriate, offensive, discriminatory, abusive, defamatory, misleading, unlawful or harmful material. We ask all members to communicate respectfully and professionally and ensure information shared is accurate and suitable for a diverse audience.
Political and Contested Issues:
The newsgroup is not for party-political campaigning, political endorsements or electioneering.
Relevant information about public policy, consultations, legislation and campaigns may be shared where it is factual, relevant and non-partisan.
Contested political, international or geopolitical issues should only be shared where they are directly relevant to Islington's voluntary and community sector, local communities or service delivery.
Please avoid inflammatory, provocative or unsubstantiated content. Where public issues are discussed, posts should remain factual, respectful and non-partisan.
Moderation and Shared Responsibility:
Messages cannot be removed once sent. Voluntary Action Islington may suspend or remove members who repeatedly misuse the newsgroup or do not follow these guidelines.
By participating in the VAI Newsgroup, members agree to help maintain a welcoming, inclusive and professional environment for everyone.
