CALLING ALL ISLINGTON COMMUNITY MEMBERS!

As part of the Local Wellbeing Networks project, we are looking to upskill people living and working in Islington and connect those looking to play an active role in their communities. We are offering a limited number of spaces on a FREE Introductory course on Community Organising. This course is a starting point for anybody who is interested in community organising and will help them begin to understand what community organising involves and what it looks like in the real world. Participants will be introduced to the foundations of listening, power, and action.

Following this introduction we have a small number of places on the full 6-month online training programme where participants will graduate from accredited courses on Community Organising and Network Building, delivered by professional trainers from Community Organisers and The Social Change Agency. The free course is part of a collaborative effort in Islington to tackle health inequalities in all localities and empower communities to create positive social change.

We are looking to offer this training to a diverse group of people, representing different backgrounds, cultures and experience who can take their learnings back into the community and kickstart some form of positive social action. In order to appropriately represent the borough, we are recruiting an equal number of participants from the 3 locality areas of Islington – North, Central & South.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of community organising, how to actively listen to build relationships, understanding power dynamics in a community and how to access power in order to influence social change. This will be in combination with network building and how to navigate infrastructure, resources and governance when it comes to getting an idea off the ground and successfully leading an organisation or group.
