Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards 2020

PRESS RELEASE

Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards 2020

Hosted by Voluntary Action Islington
Wednesday 16 December 2020

We are very pleased to announce that David Mallory is Islington Volunteer of the Year 2020.

David joined Age UK Islington and Healthwatch Islington as a volunteer in 2019 and both organisations have nominated him for this award to acknowledge and celebrate his outstanding work providing IT tuition and support during the pandemic. David has been supporting people with complex health conditions through one to one phone and zoom sessions – helping them to feel more confident in using their smart phones; setting up email accounts and keeping safe online. He has also produced many digital related articles and guides.

David’s commitment, sense of responsibility, and mentoring skills are immensely impressive. His dedication and IT knowledge has had a massive impact on the lives of many local individuals – keeping them connected to friends and family during this difficult time and even making new friends!!

Navinder Kaur, Chief Executive at Voluntary Action Islington, said:

“The experience of digital exclusion is a reality for many thousands of people living in Islington, and the pandemic has highlighted the startlingly high numbers that do not have access to basic technology that many others take for granted. Going forward let’s all make a pledge to join forces with David and act to ensure that those people who are particularly vulnerable have the right level of access, skills and confidence that they need and are not left behind. We can all play a role in this”.

The Volunteer of the Year Awards were sponsored by Doubletree by Hilton Angel Kings Cross. They were presented by The Mayor of Islington, Cllr Janet Burgess and Peader McFadden from DoubleTree by Hilton Islington.
