Volunteering Opportunities Christmas 2022
1. Cookery class volunteers – Migrateful
December 2022 – January 2023
Across London (Clerkenwell, Angel and Peckham)
Migrateful supports asylum seekers, refugees & migrants on their journey to integration & independence by preparing them to lead cookery classes in their native cuisine. As well as supporting its chefs, the organisation’s mission is to correct harmful narratives about immigration. They are in need of volunteers over the Christmas period to support their chefs’ classes, this involves helping set up, welcoming participants, clearing stations and washing up, you will also get to enjoy some of the delicious food at the end! Volunteering with them and booking into classes is easy. 2. Christmas Station Collections Volunteer – St Mungo’s
Between 5th – 22th December
Across-London (multiple options). Kings Cross Station on Tuesday 13th December, 2 hour shift, 7 am-7pm
Could you spare a couple of hours of your time to make a difference to people sleeping rough this Christmas? This winter St Mungo’s is hosting a bucket collection at Stations across London. They’re asking for volunteers to join for a two-hour slot at a time of your choice throughout the day, to help spread festive cheer whilst engaging with members of the public with St Mungo’s work and collecting vital donations to help get people off the streets this winter.

3. Volunteer collections at Christmas – Single Homeless Project
Between 10th – 20th December
Across-London (multiple options). Kings Cross station – Wednesday 18th December 2022, 2 hour shifts throughout the day.
Single Homeless Project is a London-wide charity. Our vision is of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. We help single Londoners by preventing homelessness, providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change. 4. Basket Brigade
From 25th November
Welcome to Basket Brigade UK! Whether you’re a seasoned veteran, or a newcomer who has only just heard about Basket Brigade UK, they hope you can join them this year on December 23rd for a wonderful day of fun and contribution. you’ll be packing food hampers and then delivering those hampers as a wonderful Christmas surprise to unsuspecting families in need.
They are also seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join their leadership team to make this year’s event the biggest and most successful Basket Brigade ever run, building on the incredible achievements of previous years.

5. Shelter from the storm
As soon as possible
Shelter from the Storm is a completely free emergency night shelter providing bed, dinner and breakfast for 36 people who have experienced homelessness every night of the year. Shelter from the Storm is always looking for new volunteers. They especially need Overnight volunteers at the moment –Note: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer with them.

6. Re-engage – Community Christmas events and activities for older people
Between 17 December 2022 and 1 January 2023
Re-engage is an organisation that helps make life less lonely for thousands of older people every year. Christmas can be a lonely time for many older people but it doesn’t have to be! Community Christmas provides a free online directory of local festive events and activities taking place across the UK. Older people say that their volunteer-led activities make them happier and more able to trust others. They have volunteer roles right across the UK, including in Islington. They range from hosting events, drivers, to making weekly or fortnightly calls to lonely and isolated older people.

7. Volunteer at Crisis for Christmas in London
December 2022 – January 2023
Across London
Crisis at Christmas services in London involves a unique volunteer effort that offers services for their guests throughout December and into January, contributing to helping them end their homelessness for good. They are looking for volunteers who can bring their warmth, compassion and empathy, and a range of different skills to stand with us in delivering our Christmas offer. In London, they need volunteers to help in their hotels (through to late January), their day centres and warehouses. Volunteers mean the guests have the opportunity to enjoy seasonal festivities, companionship, and access health and wellbeing services.
They strive to ensure that the services are welcoming, remain relevant and are fully accessible to everyone that they help. At Crisis they value diversity, promote equality, and challenge discrimination, and they encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
