£28,387 (per annum – full time)
£8,110 (pro rata – 10 hours per week)

Hours: 10 hours per week

Duration: 24 months

Benefits: 28 days annual leave pro rata (per annum) and 6% employers pension contribution

RESPONSIBLE TO: Volunteer Services Manager

The Volunteering Outreach Officer is a new role within Voluntary Action Islington, funded by Peabody.

The Volunteering Outreach Officer will:

• Provide targeted outreach work in Islington by promoting local volunteering and community participation opportunities to Peabody residents to improve their wellbeing, employability skills and reduce any social isolation they may be experiencing

• Identify volunteering and community participation opportunities to ensure local residents have access to current/new opportunities within voluntary, community, corporate and public sector organisations

• Provide good practice volunteering support to cross sector organisations – embedding consistent policies, procedures and practices including fair and effective safeguarding and recruitment procedures within their organisations

• Build on strengths within the community through an asset-based community development approach

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

• To recruit, train and lead a small team of 3 outreach volunteers who will work directly with Peabody residents to access local volunteering and community participation opportunities
• Increase the number of volunteering opportunities available through local voluntary, community and public sector organisations
• Promote local volunteering and community participation opportunities to local residents by providing a range of good quality information – including printed materials and via social media
• Support residents to engage in community participation initiatives such as community organising, and accessing and developing small micro grants
• Promote good practice volunteering amongst voluntary, community, corporate and public sector organisations
• Take part in volunteering fairs, other outreach events and recognition events for volunteers led by the Volunteer Services Manager
• To engage groups and organisations working with communities facing inequality, poverty and social isolation
• To make proposals regarding targeted marketing of the service in order to ensure that all our diverse communities have the opportunity to engage
• Work collaboratively with Islington Council’s Employment Support Project
• Provide support to Voluntary Action Islington’s core operational functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide support in the delivery of all aspects of volunteer recruitment
• To publicise volunteering opportunities, help organise and conduct informal volunteer information activities
• To keep accurate records relating to all aspects of volunteer recruitment, training and activities
• To monitor feedback from volunteers to ensure they receive appropriate and effective induction, training, supervision and management support
• Organise and manage training and group time for volunteers
• To provide written reports as required
• To undertake supervision and training as appropriate
• Maintain volunteer records

ADDITIONAL

• At all times carry out responsibilities/duties within the framework of VAI’s equal opportunities and promoting diversity and inclusion and other policies.
• To carry out additional tasks that may be required from time to time to achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed with the line manager.
• To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
• The post holder is expected to be committed to VAI’s core values of fairness, effectiveness and transparency and to demonstrate this commitment in the way they carry out their duties.
• Ensure that duties are undertaken with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.
• Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with VAI’s Health and Safety Policy and relevant Health and Safety legislation.
• To collect and record data about service provision that can be used for monitoring purposes and to support service improvement

  • We work in partnership with Islington Council and other public sector partners on key areas such as community safety, promoting health and wellbeing, and reducing inequality and poverty. We represent the interests of the voluntary and community sector to our partners in the public sector;
  • Our King’s Cross base is a Resource Hub providing workspaces, conferencing, training and meeting facilities – and is also the location of Volunteer Centre Islington.
