Wellbeing for All
We would be delighted if you would join us on 12th May 2021, 10.15am – 12.30pm for this online event which we are hosting as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.
- We will hear about the fantastic work that some of our VCS organisations are doing in the borough.
- Our Islington’s Clinical Commissioning Group colleagues will talk about the transformation of Islington’s Mental Health Services and the Integrated Care Plan.

Confirmed speakers from the Voluntary and Community Sector:
Anna Portch, Manager, Sunnyside Community Gardens: Anna will talk about the massive back garden for people who live in Hillrise, an area where most people live in flats with little or no outdoor space. The tiny charity that runs the site, provides opportunities for local people to do volunteer gardening and spend time outdoors in nature as well as getting to know their neighbours, all of which combats isolation.
Carol Louvet, Clinical Manager, The Stress Project, Holloway Neighbourhood Group
Emma Whitby, Chief Executive, Healthwatch Islington: Emma chairs Islington’s Challenging Inequality Partnership Working Group and will present the ambitions and progress of Islington’s Challenging Inequality Strategy.
Geethika Jayatilaka, CEO, Chance UK: Geethika will talk about early intervention and supporting wellbeing and the development of social and emotional skills in children aged 5 – 13.
Ismail Bahriyeli, Head of Service Carers and Community, Age UK: Ismail will talk about their work in partnership with Camden and Islington NHS Team.
Jonathan Buffong, Mixed Martial Arts for Reform and Progression (MMARAP): Jonathan will talk about the training and mentoring of young people using mixed martial arts – an invaluable tool to develop essential life skills, such as confidence, discipline and respect.
Nicky Forsythe, Founder and CEO, Talk for Health: Nicky is a Psychotherapist, researcher and innovator in the area of emotional health. Nicky believes that techniques from psychotherapy can be used by anybody to lead a satisfying and beneficial life.
Sigal Avni, Chief Executive, Islington Mind: Sigal will talk about the services and projects offered by Islington Mind, their opening plans and the challenges currently faced by service users in managing and recovering from the Covid-19 trauma.
Tash Alexander, Founder, Head Held High: Tash is a motivational coach and comedy writer/ performer who founded Head Held High in 2013 to inspire and encourage others to become a true product of themselves and not their pasts.
Emma Charlton, Direct Action Project, The Peel will present a video of their project working primarily with young people and parents across Islington.
As part of this event, we will also have a presentation from LBI/Clinical Commissioning Group about plans to transform Islington’s mental health services and this will be followed by an interactive session. LBI and CCG presenters to be confirmed.
This event is for staff and volunteers from Islington’s Voluntary and Community Sector, Islington Council, Islington Clinical Commissioning Group and Public Health.
