Navinder Kaur new Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Islington

Press Statement

Voluntary Action Islington (VAI) has chosen Navinder Kaur as its new Chief Executive.

Navinder was until recently Networks and Partnerships Manager at London Plus, which brought together voluntary, local authority and NHS responses to the Covid-19 outbreak across the capital. She previously worked at VAI as Head of Policy, Partnerships and Communications, and was London Borough of Islington’s Voluntary and Community Development Officer.

VAI’s Chair, Phil Kelly, said “We are very pleased that we have been able to appoint a Chief Executive who has wide experience of voluntary and community sector organisations in Islington and in the capital. We look forward to Navinder strengthening VAI’s support for the sector in Islington and in particular working with partner organisations and the many groups which have come together to help the community in response to the Covid-19 crisis. I would also like to thank Antony Bewick-Smith who has been acting Chief Executive for the past year.”

Navinder Kaur said “I am absolutely delighted to be re-joining VAI. I have an unfaltering commitment to Islington’s voluntary and community sector and have spent 15 years working alongside colleagues in the sector and the local authority. I have experienced first-hand the commendable dedication and passion of staff and volunteers working to improve the life chances and opportunities of Islington’s diverse communities and I applaud their commitment. For these reasons, I very much look forward to working closely with partners from across the sectors to continue to promote Islington’s VCS and strengthen its influence and impact.”

VAI provides advice on governance, fundraising and strategy to the voluntary sector in Islington. It has over 500 member organisations.
