Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards 2018

Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards 2018

Wednesday 7th November 2018

Islington’s Volunteer of the Year 2018 is Fatima Zahra Habri, who has given many hours in volunteer time as a Volunteer Advisor for MEWSO, who previously gave her emotional and practical support. Now Zahra is helping Islington BAMER women rebuild their lives and recover from domestic violence, fight for their rights as women and mothers,  as well as giving other women the confidence to stand up for themselves. Zahra is an extremely energetic, enthusiastic and inspirational woman and has been able to help so many women who don’t have her confidence to face life’s challenges.

Antony Bewick-Smith, Development and Partnerships Manager at Voluntary Action Islington said:
“We were moved by stories of volunteers who gave up their time to support the disadvantaged, the vulnerable and help our young people start life on the right footing – even when these volunteers themselves were experiencing hardship. Voluntary Action Islington is proud to honour those unsung heroes.”

The Volunteer of the Year Awards were sponsored by Doubletree by Hilton and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill. They were presented by the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Dave Poyser at the Voluntary Action Islington AGM.
