Staff of National Charity Volunteer in Islington
Staff from the Islington based national organisation, NCVO, that supports charities in the UK have been volunteering with Voluntary Action Islington today.
16 staff from NCVO spent the afternoon at Voluntary Action Islington providing expert help to local community organisations on subjects ranging from strategy and funding to managing data.
Mike Sherriff, Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Islington said:
“Islington is one of the poorest boroughs in the country. There are many National charities based here and its’ great staff from NCVO are getting involved locally by volunteering with our member community organisations. As a result of this initiative local groups will have access to much needed help and advice that otherwise would not be available to them.”
A participant from a local group who sought advice about fundraising said:
“We received practical advice relevant to our organisation at the present time. We now know exactly which funders to apply to.”
Justin Davis Smith, executive director for volunteering and development at NCVO, said:
‘Islington has a thriving voluntary sector, with one of the highest concentrations of charities of anywhere in the country. It’s a pleasure to meet so many local voluntary groups and learn more about the issues affecting them. I hope we can give them a little guidance on some of the more technical aspects of running a charity, so they can concentrate on doing what they do best – supporting people in Islington.’
