Our submission to Islington’s Employment Commission
Our submission to Islington’s Employment Commission can be read here.
In it we identify 3 main roles for the local voluntary sector in helping to tackle the barriers to employment faced by residents:
1) As a direct employer
2) As a provider of a wide range of employment support services
3) As a provider of volunteering opportunities
We urge the Commission to make recommendations that support local voluntary organisations to recruit more local people facing barriers to employment, to support investment in volunteering programmes as an important part of an overall approach to increasing employability for local people, and to encourage smaller contracts with payment methods including grants, that would enable local voluntary organisations to play a more active role in employment support programmes.
