Celebrating our Volunteers – Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards 2013
Islington’s wonderful volunteers were celebrated at the Jurys Inn Volunteer of the Year Awards at Voluntary Action Islington (Wednesday 6th November). Awards were given in 5 categories, recognising older and younger volunteers, as well as trustees and employee volunteering.
David Martin, from Body and Soul, won the Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with children aged 10 to 12 facing the challenge that HIV presents in their lives. He was recognised for his optimism and bright outlook, and providing young people with a consistent, positive role model.
The awards were presented by the Mayor Cllr Barry Edwards, Young Mayor Jasmine Martins, and Abhi Poudel from Jurys Inn Islington, sponsors of the evening. Mike Sherriff, CEO of Voluntary Action Islington stated, “The awards recognise not just the winners and nominees, but all volunteers in the Borough. They commit their time and energy to making the Borough a better place for residents and deserve our thanks for impact they have improving peoples’ lives.”
All winners and nominees received certificates, with winners also receiving prizes of hotel packages from Jurys Inn.
