Universal Credit basics

This workshop is part of the advice training programme organised by VAI and Islington Council, in partnership with the Islington Strategic Advice Partnership for front line workers who are not advice specialists but would like to increase their knowledge of key areas of advice. This programme is offering a range of advice training sessions. Details of each training session can be found here.

This is an overview course to equip support organisations with the knowledge to help claimants understand Universal Credit (UC) & to tackle common problems.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Generalist advisers & support workers in community roles.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Following the course, participants will:

• Know what UC is and who has to claim it
• Understand the claiming process and how to support people through it
• Understand a UC online statement & how changes affect the amount
• Know what people have to do whilst getting UC
• Be able to give initial support for common problems.

THE TRAINER
This course will be delivered by  Will Hadwen via Advice UK.
