Personal Independence Payment – getting the right award

July 24 @ 10:00 - 13:30

A practical course for community groups, to help ensure that local residents obtain PIP before being migrated over to Universal Credit. Currently an award of PIP daily living can provide an extra severe disability premium (sdp) of £64.30 per week on means tested benefits. However, under Universal Credit there will be no sdp, unless the claimant is already receiving PIP and the sdp and transitional protection will apply.  The course will help community groups ensure that their service users can benefit from the transitional protection where they are eligible, by making claims as soon as possible.

This workshop is part of the advice training programme organised by VAI and Islington Council, in partnership with the Islington Strategic Advice Partnership for front line workers who are not advice specialists but would like to increase their knowledge of key areas of advice. This programme is offering a range of advice training sessions. Details of each training session can be found here.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Community organisations and groups who are not specialist welfare benefits advisors but who want to understand a little more about the legal context and how they can use this to assist their own service users and/or help them make the most appropriate referrals.
