People’s Assembly on Vision 2030: net zero Islington

03/06/2020 @ 18:30 - 20:30

Islington Council declared a climate emergency in June 2019. In February it produced a draft plan called Vision 2030 about how Islington hopes to achieve reductions in emissions to net zero by 2030. The plan is out for consultation until the end of July [https://tinyurl.com/yauk9tq4]. You can read the plans in full there, and XR Islington have produced a summary [https://tinyurl.com/y9q375fv]. Join us on Zoom to feedback to the council:

3 June they will discuss the Council’s proposals for reducing emissions from buildings (‘priority 1’ in their plan and approximately 84% of the borough’s CO2 emissions of which 41% comes from electricity and 43% from gas)

Councillor Rowena Champion, Islington Executive Member for Environment and Transport are planning to attend as well as the Head of Energy Services at the Council, Francis Ugboma.

Covid 19 demonstrates we really are a global village. The choices we make now will nurture a habitable world for future generations or destroy much of what is left of this unique living planet. Our choices will determine whether we can make a just transition that reduces inequality and exploitation.

Using the format of a ‘People’s Assembly’ – a process intended to support connection, listening and learning from each other – we will share feedback with the council in the form of a report summarising the Assemblies.

They have also created a group on WhatsApp to discuss the Council’s plans which you are welcome to join [https://chat.whatsapp.com/CzCdaPcsii61zgP8QCFxdT].
