Introduction to health and safety in the workplace

20/05/2014 @ 09:30 - 13:30

This course provides a basic introduction to health and safety for staff, volunteers and trustees of community organisations. It will cover areas regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important to maintaining safe working procedures in the workplace.

What you will achieve: You will understand how health and safety is the responsibility of everyone within a business, its contractors, visitors and suppliers.
You will gain a sound introduction to all aspects of health and safety including legislation, fire procedures, chemical safety, manual handling and personal protective equipment.

Who should attend: Anyone who needs to understand more about the important role of health and safety in the operation of community buildings, and who wants to ensure that they follow and uphold safe working procedures.

Anyone who needs to know the specific roles and responsibilities employers have from a legal point of view: need to offer adequate training to staff, need to offer adequate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), how to store dangerous materials safely and what Health and Safety Executive (HSE) records need to be maintained.

This course is aimed at members of staff working in a community building as well as those who are preparing to start or return to work. It is also suitable for volunteers, and for trustees who want to gain an understanding of the role of health and safety.

To secure your place, please complete the application form and send it to Maria Gonzalez at by Tuesday 6th May. We expect these courses to be popular, so earlier application is advised!
