Introduction into debt advice for frontline workers

This course is an introduction into debt advice; types of debt including rent arrears, mortgage arrears, council tax arrears, magistrate court fines, gas and electricity arrears, water arrears, illegal loans (loan sharks), credit cards, loans, catalogues, store cards and others and including issues such as repossession; enforcement agents (bailiffs), attachment of earnings orders, imprisonment, County Court Judgments, credit ratings and others.

This workshop is part of the advice training programme organised by VAI and Islington Council, in partnership with the Islington Strategic Advice Partnership for front line workers who are not advice specialists but would like to increase their knowledge of key areas of advice. This programme is offering a range of advice training sessions. Details of each training session can be found here.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is aimed at people with limited or no knowledge of debt advice and experience in the community engaging with people or groups affected by low income, unstable income and over indebtedness.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The aims of this course is to develop your understanding of what debt issues people in Islington are facing, provide a foundational knowledge of how to prioritise debts and teach you how to assist people to take appropriate action in emergencies.

THE TRAINER
This course will be delivered by Andrew Hansard from RCJ Advice.
