Carers Week 2021

This year, Carers Week takes place from 7-14 June. Carers Week is a national initiative that highlights the importance of unpaid carers, the challenges that they face and recognition of the contribution that they make to families and their communities. This will be the second year that the Carers Week campaign in Islington will take place online.

This event is hosted by Islington Carers Hub, a service provided by Age UK Islington, together with partner Centre 404. Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign to bring caring out into the open. Monday 7th June 2o21: 

10:30am – 12:00pm – Let’s Talk… Caring & Benefits by Islington People’s Rights

IPR will be providing up to date benefit advice, looking at the process and criteria for Carers Allowance, Pension Credits, Universal Credits. They’ll also provide information and advice on the Tribunal Process for appeals and the support that IPR can provide with specialist welfare and benefits advice. Book Now

2:00pm – 3:30pm – Selfcare Advice & Hand Massage by Nature’s Pure Love

This is a taster session of Nature’s Pure Love ’30 Day Mindfulness Power Session’ to start the day for transforming your being and to feel the difference in yourself.  Book Now

Tuesday 8th June: 

10:30am – 12:00pm – Let’s Talk… Cancer by Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan will be facilitating a presentation looking at the different diagnoses of cancer and different stages and treatment options. They will be looking at how Cancer can affect you physically, emotionally and financially. There will also be an overview of the Macmillan service and a Q&A session. Book Now

Wednesday 9th June: 

10:30am – 12:00pm – Let’s Talk… Learning Disabilities by Centre 404

Centre 404 will be sharing information about the service they provide for individuals with autism, learning disabilities and caring responsibilities. They will also highlight statistics and discuss barriers to daily living and caring responsibilities. There will also be a Q&A session. Book Now

2:00pm – 3:15pm – Movement & Dance Session by Eilidh Scott

An opportunity to get moving and this time with an experienced instructor, Eilidh Scott, well known to ICH. Her interactive movement class is suitable for all ages and all abilities and will surely lift your mood! Book Now

Thursday 10th June:

12:00pm – 1:00pm – Dementia Champion Presentation by Jeanne Pring Book Now

2:00pm – 3:30pm – Let’s Talk… Mental Health by C&I NHS Foundation Trust

C&I NHS will talk about the importance of the carer’s role in supporting someone with psychosis; carers’ wellbeing. There will be a brief overview of services provided by the Trust and a summary of the key subjects presented in the Trust Psycho-education group (providing information and support to better understand and cope with illness). Book Now

10:30am – 12:00pm – Yoga Session by Dr Adi Priya
