About the facilitator

Dr Bassey Ekpe is the Director of EDGERC Innovation CIC. He has extensive experience in developing and delivering educational and professional training across industries, including commercial and the voluntary sector. As an occasional lecturer at the University of Huddersfield, he lectured International Relations and Politics Studies and worked with colleagues to develop course curricula, and championed the development of effective learning tools to motivate and enhance learning. He also taught Media and Communication Studies at Barnsley College, covering a broad learner categories, from NVQ to graduate-level education.

Bassey has worked with a number of voluntary and community association organisations in West Yorkshire, helping to implement social and economic development and regeneration programs. He has over seven years’ experience in employment and careers consultancy, and was responsible for delivering employability and careers training and guidance, helping long term unemployed clients and those with long term health and disability-related barriers turn their lives around through active employment and entrepreneurial engagement. 

As a Research Consultant at Knowledge Option, Bassey managed the collection and analysis of data to drive innovation and digital transformation decisions and overseeing the delivery of research projects to leverage scalable and sustainable solutions. He was also responsible for planning and delivering bespoke advocacy consultancy training to improve the innovative capacity of stakeholders. He holds an MA in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Westminster and a PhD in Political Science at the University of Huddersfield. He is a published authority in collective intelligence and decision making in complex organisations.

By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

Identify the defining features of innovation and the tools that can enable the innovation capacity of the individual, the community, or an organisation.

Understand what it means to create a resilient and sustainable community or organisation through innovation.

Understand the building blocks of innovation capability of individuals, communities, and organisations.

Understand the importance of supporting innovation as a growth and development process.

By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
